Eastbourne Eagles can clinch their play-off spot tonight after a dramatic evening in the Elite League.

Eagles won 47-43 at Arena-Essex and have gone two points clear of Poole, who crashed 46-44 at home to Ipswich, in the race for post-season action.

Poole, who go to Swindon tonight, are now two points behind Eagles, who visit Coventry.

Guest star Jason Crump, in for Nicki Pedersen, led Eastbourne in Essex with 17 points from six rides. He combined with the impressive Adam Shields for the clinching 5-1 after the two teams entered heat 15 tied at 42-42.

Crump's only defeat came when he was second to Eastbourne asset Sergey Darkin in heat 13.

Eagles promoter Jon Cook said; "The only surprise was when Jason got beat. "He did a fantastic job. He has given Nicki something to live up to when he gets back.

"It was a good meeting and I think we just about deserved to edge it."
