Kerry Mayo today insisted: "I am fit and available to play against Leeds."

Albion's experienced defender came through a full 90 minutes as the Reserves lost 2-0 at Reading yesterday after being sidelined with injury for a month.

Mayo is convinced he has recovered from knee and calf problems he felt after the 2-0 league reverse against the Royals on September 9.

He said: "I lacked a bit of sharpness at times but think that was down to lack of match practice and the very hot conditions under which all the players suffered.

"Coming through 90 minutes at Reading showed I am fit and available. The knee is fine and the calf feels good.

"It would be fantastic to play against Leeds. But I would not be downhearted if I didn't because it would seem unwarranted to drop anyone after last week's brilliant performance against Plymouth.

"It was great to be back. I was played in central defence rather than my preferred position of left-back, and I don't know why, but I didn't mind where I was put because I was back playing."

Mayo rejoined training last Wednesday to end a nightmare time.

He said: "I felt so bad I would take the long way round from the gym to the changing room just to avoid seeing the lads train because I wanted to be involved so badly."

Argentinian striker Federico Turienzo also played the full game yesterday and new French winger Alexandre Frutos's debut lasted 70 minutes.
