It is terrible to see the devastation of the southern states of the US and the extreme suffering felt by the victims of this natural disaster.
But who is really going to foot the bill for rebuilding New Orleans and the surrounding areas?
I have read that electricity and gas bills will rise by up to ten per cent, petrol prices will hit the dizzy heights of £1 a litre and car and house insurance premiums will need to rise to cover insurance companies loses.
No doubt hurricane Katrina will be used as an excuse to increase council tax bills as well.
I cannot help but wonder if the world would come to our rescue if the disaster was in the UK?
