What on earth was Sergeant Andy Westwood thinking when he took it upon himself to enforce a dress code at Worthing Carnival by insisting the lovely ladies from Secrets lingerie shop cover themselves up (The Argus, August 31)?

Dressed in Victorian corsets and hot pants, they were clearly more "covered" than bikini-clad ladies seen on the beach on any hot sunny day, so what was his problem? And perhaps the Sergeant can explain which law he was relying on in order to enforce his view. His defence that there may have been complaints if he had not intervened is unacceptable on that basis, virtually every human activity could be halted.
