When The Beat rushed on to the music scene in Birmingham 1979, it was a time of social, political and musical upheaval.
Into this storm came The Beat, trying to calm the waters with their simple message of love and unity set to a great dance beat.
Their combination of soul, reggae, pop and punk proved infectious and along with their contemporaries The Specials, The Selecter, and Madness, The Beat became one of the most popular and influential bands of the British ska movement.
Only five years later, the six working class lads had released three hit albums and had successfully toured with the likes of The Clash, David Bowie and The Police - to name but a few.
Despite their success, the band broke up soon after the release of their third album to concentrate on separate projects but reunited in 2003.
