In an increasingly gloomy world where we are threatened by global warming, terrorism and now bird flu, what a happy escape I had late week at Kemp Town's Internet Cafe 22, when I went to A Bit Of A Do, organised by Lee Walker.
This was a camp, joyous fundraiser for High Spin, a worthy local charity which encourages young people with learning difficulties, and this group can expect to receive £1,200 through the generosity of businesses, private sponsors and performers who made this such a memorable event.
We were treated to a beautiful solo song and dance piece from a High Spin actor, the usual outrageous escapades from David Raven (often better out of Masie Trollette's frock, I think) and Jerry and Dolores who, though hosting the evening, created the impression they had just wandered in from the street.
Jerry (Colin Bourner), his eyebrows soaring to meet his toupee, reminds me of Frankie Howerd while Dolores (Roy Miles) resembles a wildly askance Bet Lynch.
With their offbeat style of squeezing hilarity out of unusual situations, they could go far.
