I read that inside the new King Alfred sports centre there will be "a rainbow of lasers, a sandy beach complete with lapping waves and multi-coloured jets of water shooting through the air" (The Argus, August 27).
Hooray for Hollywood! But will all this glitzy razzle-dazzle help a seafront community thrown into the shadow of massive tower blocks containing 750 flats?
Will this stop Hove choking in traffic and pollution? Will lasers beam several thousand additional people around town as an alternative to driving?
Will lasers deal with the untold additional pressure on our already-strapped medical system?
Will lasers relieve the additional pressure which will be placed on our school facilities, our water supply and our sewerage system?
I suppose we'll need to rely on a lot more than lasers to stop the needless wrecking of Hove's environment and infrastructure.
