About half a million people passed through Gatwick during the bank holiday weekend.
The August bank holiday is usually one of the busiest periods at the airport with people jetting off to the sun.
The top destinations were Malaga in Spain, Dalaman in Turkey, Palma de Mallorca in Spain and Orlando in Florida.
South Terminal manager Steve Elson said the extra traffic had not affected efficiency.
He said: "Everything went smoothly. Our teams worked hard to ensure our travellers received the brightest welcome and a smooth and pleasant journey through the airport."
