Is Trevor Pateman (Letters, August 26) connected with the Noble organisation by any chance?
Far from being a "waste of public money", the UK Immigration Service did exactly what it is paid to do - it found a number of people who shouldn't have been working in Britain and arrested them.
In response, instead of apologising and promising to amend its staff procedures, the Noble organisation has said the problem has nothing to do with it because some of the alleged illegal workers were working for sub-contractors.
I'm no lawyer but I don't know any other industry where this could be an adequate defence.
We should do the opposite of what Mr Pateman suggests and spend our money elsewhere until the Noble organisation promises to keep a tighter rein on the pier.
And the UK Immigration Service should be praised.
