A cavalcade of scooters will descend on the seaside in a celebration of the legendary style and music of Sixties' youth culture.

The Brighton Weekender gets underway tonight at the Sussex Arts Club, in Ship Street, when mods from across the UK will attend the first of three days of music events dedicated to the era.

Between 50 and 100 people are expected to arrive on scooters travelling from the heart of London on Saturday.

The weekender is organised by mod devotees from the New Untouchables.

They arrange events across the country dedicated to the decade and are returning to Brighton for the first time in three years.

New Untouchables' Rob Bailey said: "Brighton has always been a traditional resort for mods in the Eighties and the Sixties because it is easily accessible.

"We have not been here for several years because it is difficult to get a decent venue which will remain open."

The arrival of stylish mods will be marked with a retro stall along Madeira Drive from noon to 4pm followed by live music and DJ sets with 100 per cent Dynamite at Komedia, in Gardner Street, Brighton, from 8pm.

The weekend will continue throughout Sunday at Volks, in Madeira Drive, with a second scooter rally leaving the club at 2pm for Beachy Head.
