Your article about Great College Street, Kemp Town (The Argus, August 18), reminded me of my early school days when I attended the "dame school", Carlton House, as did my sister Phyllis.
There were two other members of staff as well as Miss Swan, Miss Rawlinson and Miss Stace.
Good behaviour and manners were the order of the day and woe betide any boy or girl who was seen by Miss Swan from the top back window running down Abbey Road.
