I often walk along Wiston Road in Whitehawk, Brighton, and was delighted to see how the council has brightened up the houses by new replacement double-glazed windows and front doors.
They looked so nice and I was glad for the families who live in them as it gives a fresh new look to them.
However, the saddest thing is that the majority of the occupants don't give a damn for their front gardens. Most are overgrown, neglected and some littered with lots of old furniture and rubbish which has been there for months.
A lot of these families are young people and capable of looking after their gardens. There are a few elderly residents but the others are mainly young families.
As you walk along this long road, you occasionally see the odd "cared for" garden and it really stands out among the others.
I grew up in Whitehawk Road in the Fifties and our mothers and fathers took a real pride in our front gardens.
