In response to Councillor Delia Forester (Letters, August 18), I've got a bin, thank you.

However, Cityclean employees seem unable to empty it. They only take my rubbish if it is in a black bag on the street - and that's on the weeks they turn up.

Councillor Forester says that in spite of traffic congestion, inconsiderate parking, fly-tipping and spilled rubbish, our binmen are doing an amazing job and are also making a big difference to the amount we recycle.

Myself and many other residents in Clifton Street would disagree.

As your recent article explained, we have an inconsistent service. Councillor Simon Williams seems to be the only person in the council who cares about the problem.

Many phone calls have been made to the council with little response and I am still waiting for the chief executive or assistant director of Cityclean to phone me back, as I was promised two weeks ago.

As for the claims about recycling, we have no recycling in Clifton Street. The most recent report from the Audit Commission states that 57.5 per cent of residents receive kerbside recycling compared to a national average of 86.22 per cent.

This only increased four per cent from 2002/03, whereas the national average increased 13 per cent.

In my opinion, this is nothing to be proud of.
