A major hotel chain has resubmitted an application for a three-star hotel as part of the redevelopment of the Brighton station site.
Jurys Inn, owned by the Jurys Doyle company, hopes to operate the six-storey hotel at the former railway goods yard known as the New England Quarter.
Jurys Inn runs hotels in big towns and cities throughout Britain and Ireland with fixed budget rates for rooms and usually a bar and restaurant.
A previous application for a 27m-tall hotel containing 262 bedrooms was withdrawn by developer Osborn Securities in May amid concerns about the design and height of the building.
The new application, submitted to Brighton and Hove City Council last week, has been reduced in height to a maximum of about 24m.
The number of bedrooms has been reduced to 233 and the roof of the building has been set back and refined in places.
Osborn Securities also plans to build a four-storey office block, a public open space and piazza and a landscaped garden. Osborn has developed several properties in Brighton including International House, a major office building near the station.
The company was unavailable for comment yesterday.
