All the signs pointed to a great show. Following their eponymous debut LP, The Cribs were hailed as ones to watch, as part of a new wave of garage pop bands headed by Razorlight.
And when they released successor album The New Fellas earlier this summer, it hinted at the band's ability to create debauched musical highs.
Disappointingly, then, The Cribs failed to deliver.
While undoubtedly offering catchy pop melodies such as The Wrong Way To Be and forthcoming single Martell, the Brothers Jarman were without passion, lyrical content and that allimportant X factor.
Despite the tight clothing, sweat and bad haircuts, The Cribs lacked the poetry of Pete Doherty and the charisma of The Kaiser Chiefs.
Yelling about drugs, cult music scenes and little else, lead man Ryan's desperate attempts to look cool were just plain cringeworthy.
The Wakefield trio join the Kaisers on the NME Rock'n'Roll Riot Tour this October. Ironic really, as The Cribs are about as rock'n'roll as an armchair.
