I was glad to see the issue of street rubbish raised on the front page of The Argus (August 15).
It's about time this nuisance, which spills out all over the city, was tackled. The summer only highlights what is a year-round problem.
Open binliners bring real risks to public health, with rotting food strewn on the streets, where flies and seagulls feast and young children walk.
The problem has many causes. Cityclean's lack of collection is an obvious one. Another is the inadequate provision of dustbin facilities.
Our mews is given four small bins, unshielded from street or seagull, for ten houses to share.
Is it any wonder that, come collection day, the bins are overflowing and the gulls have ripped the sacks apart and dragged the rubbish across our street and beyond?
Simply supplying us with wheelie bins would solve the problem.
