The traditional Sunday roast is the meal of choice for Brightonians, according to a new survey.
The city may have a cosmopolitan reputation but 47 per cent of people surveyed by catering company Avenance said their favourite dish was meat and two veg.
Sweet and sour chicken is Brighton's second favourite dish with 17 per cent of the vote, while spaghetti bolognese came in third with seven per cent.
The survey of 1,000 people across the UK found 64 per cent of people in Brighton sit down to eat a roast at least once a week.
Only one in ten believed chicken tikka masala is a British dish and just a quarter of people surveyed in the city had ever sampled a doner kebab.
While fish and chips is ranked joint fourth in the Native Nosh league of Brighton's favourite meals, other more traditional dishes have disappeared.
Only three per cent chose stew and dumplings and two per cent picked sausages and mash as their favourites, preferring Italian specialities such as lasagne, which is ranked joint fourth and chicken tikka masala, ranked sixth.
