Councillor Warren Morgan says council tenants' rights would be "protected" on transfer to a "newly created independent housing association" (Letters, August 9).
There is a world of difference between the secure tenancy enjoyed by council tenants and protected by law, and an "assured" tenancy, which is an agreement between landlord and tenant.
These are being broken, as are rent "guarantees" (broken by 17 per cent of post transfer associations).
A Housing Association is a private company in law, and its board members have duties to the company, not to tenants.
Councillor Morgan will know this, if he has troubled to read the recent report from the House of Commons, which we sent to him some weeks ago.
