Congratulations to Harveys (The Argus, August 10) for winning the top prize at the Campaign for Real Ale's Champion Beer Competition for its Best Bitter.
The accolade simply confirms what those of us who drink the Old Lewes Mouthwash know already: It really is the best and one of the most important reasons for living in Brighton.
Such a pity, then, that it is not sold at Brighton Festival events at the Dome. Apart from being the best in the land, it is locally sourced, provides local employment and does not have to travel many miles to get to Brighton.
It is also infinitely superior to the gassy stuff which is sold to the city's cultural drinkers.
It costs £9 billion a year to shunt food and drink around Britain by road, a process which produces about ten million tonnes of CO2.
We could make a small dent in these shameful figures by serving Harveys at festival events. On a wider point, Brighton and Hove City Council should use as much locally sourced produce as possible.
