Councillor Geoffrey Theobald is to be congratulated on highlighting the preferability of re-opening the Uckfield to Lewes railway line to creating more park-and-ride (The Argus, July 23).
He correctly observes that travel from Brighton to Uckfield or East Grinstead by train involves going to East Croydon and down again.
For those prepared to use buses, however, East Grinstead can be reached more quickly and cheaply by taking the train to Haywards Heath, then the hourly 270 bus (every two hours on Sundays), though unfortunately it does not run after about 7pm.
There is also an hourly weekday service linking Brighton and Lewes with Uckfield and Tunbridge Wells (two-hourly on Sundays).

-public transport co-ordinator for East Grinstead
