As Brighton has been known as Little London for many years and is less than an hour away by train, we are ideally placed to provide training facilities for many athletes - before, during and after the 2012 Olympics.
Our local sports people also need proper facilities for training and competing. With the delay in building a football stadium at Falmer, I wonder what chance we have of Brighton and Hove City Council getting itself organised to build proper training facilities for the Olympics.
We don't have an Olympic-size swimming pool, an ice rink or an indoor cycle track. Disabled competitors in most sports have nowhere to train either.
We have the sea on our doorstep, which could be used for sailing, rowing, canoeing and triathlons.
If we had a cycling stadium, the triathletes could also use that for speed training.
The main reason for construction at present is to build overbearing tower blocks high into the sky and cram in as many flats as possible to make as much money as possible.
The city is already overrun with cars and people. Our space is limited with the Downs behind us and the sea to the south.
Perhaps the answer is to build over the sea. I understand an airport has been built over the sea off Japan - sounds like a good idea. It would stop all the problems of the noise of take-offs and landings over houses.
