What irony that the villagers of West Chiltington are supporting opponents of the proposed recycling centre at Hollingdean (The Argus, July 29).
Hollingdean residents are not fighting a landfill site as West Chiltington residents seem to think. They are opposing an indoor recycling and waste sorting centre.
The villagers' victory over a proposed landfill site is welcome. But they fail to appreciate the Hollingdean recycling facility has no other purpose than to see an end to landfills as a means of disposing of this city's waste.
We're all generating waste. Protesting against all forms of waste disposal, including recycling in Brighton, incineration in Newhaven or landfill in West Chiltington, is short-sighted.
Do the villagers know where their own rubbish will go or how it will be got rid of? Would they object to a facility like the one proposed at Hollingdean to deal with it?
