It seems drivers in Brighton need to be reminded that using a mobile phone while driving is illegal.
I regularly walk my children home from school and have, on a number of occasions, felt unsafe crossing roads, especially Lewes Road, where many drivers feel it is okay to sit in the crossing zone, chatting on their mobiles.
It is now the school summer holidays and, like other responsible parents, I have tried hard to get my two young children to realise that, as pedestrians, we also have a responsibility to observe the Highway Code.
It is a shame (predominately male) drivers (in flash cars) do not think the same.
They must be very sad indeed not to realise they are not so important they can risk the lives of young children and others just because they must make that one call because, apparently, the world would end.
The law is clear: Put down your phone when you are driving - and don't swear at women and children who kindly ask you to do so.
