A club has been shortlisted for an award to decide the UK's best nightspot.
In 2003 Brighton's Ocean Rooms in Morley Street club beat renowned London venues, including The End and Sankeys Soap, for the Smirnoff Beda nightclub of the year title.
Owner Ben Gill is hoping to regain the crown following a major refit at the club this January. He said: "The refit has given the club a new lease of life.
"I think what impressed the judges was we have managed to maintain the Ocean Rooms brand instead of giving up and renaming as many other clubs seem to have done."
Improvements included a new food facility, social club and live lounge. Mr Gill said: "The judges are looking for fresh and versatile venues. But these new directions have not meant traditional club aspects have been forgotten."
Five other South Coast clubs will be judged along with The Ocean Rooms on the night for the regional prize before the national awards ceremony in London.
