Motorcycling journalist Cyril Quantrill, who set modern standards for reporting of the sport by founding Motorcycle News, has died aged 89.
He was in semi-retirement in Sutton Place, Bexhill, and passed away in a local nursing home.
Mr Quantrill, whose funeral is at Eastbourne Crematorium tomorrow at 10.45am, was a member of the Guild of Motoring Writers. He spent a lifetime in motorcycle journalism from the time he became a young reporter on Motor Cycling in 1938.
He founded and became editor of Motorcycle News in 1951 and subsequently edited several motorcycling publications. He retired in 1978 but kept working on local papers in Sussex.
