Transport companies are lining up to run rail services through Sussex and Kent, including the high speed services on the Channel Rail Link.
Govia, which owns the main two rail companies in Sussex, Southern and Thameslink, and is part of the Go-Ahead Group, which has the Brighton and Hove Bus and Coach Company under its wing, was the first to submit its bid last Friday.
Joining with the French company Keolis, it wants to run the services in the far south-east of England.
At the weekend the consortium which runs GNER and the Hong Kong Metro submitted its bid. It wants to run services as the Great South Eastern Railway.
Two other consortiums are expected to submit bids in the next few weeks. They are the Danish State Railways and rail company First Group.
