A three-legged walk was held to highlight the case of a student locked up without trial in Guantanamo Bay.
The sponsored walk was organised by the Brighton and Hove Amnesty International group to publicise the case of Omar Deghayes, who has spent three years in the American jail in Cuba.
Teams of three-legged walkers paraded along the seafront between Brighton Marina and the Hove Peace statue on Saturday.
They raised several hundred pounds, which will go towards Amnesty's human rights work and to CESEMA, a Nicaraguan charity working to promote children's rights.
Amnesty is campaigning for Mr Deghayes, a 35-year-old father, formerly from Saltdean, to be returned to Britain.
Spokeswoman Sara Birch said: "This was a fun way to raise awareness about Omar's case and raise money at the same time.
"People kept stopping to ask why we were doing the walk and who Omar was.
"They were shocked to hear a Brighton resident could be held for three years in a US prison without trial."
