TV PRESENTER Des Lynam has announced his own Match of the Day - working with zany TV star Neil Morrissey in his first acting role.

The voice of sport is playing alongside Men Behaving Badly actor Neil in a comedy romance on BBC1 called My Summer With Des. Morrissey plays an England football fan swept up in the euphoria of the Euro 96 competition. His life is transformed when he meets a girl, played by Rachel Weisz who starred in last year's hit movie Stealing Beauty. Morrissey is unsuccessful in his love life and unhappy in his job before the tournament and Des, from Brighton, acts as his mentor. Keen Albion fan Des is featured in a cameo role in the one-off show, written by Arthur Smith. He has never been in an acting role before but is relishing the challenge. He told the Argus: "They have taken clips from Euro 96 and asked me to record a few more lines. "I have met Neil Morrissey for some publicity photos. "He is a good lad and very interested in football. He is a big talent. "It is a one-off show. I am flattered that I was asked to take part by Arthur Smith, who is a very nice man. "He took me out for lunch and just asked me. "I haven't done any acting since I was at school. I don't really do much acting in it anyway." Filming is taking place this month in London and Paris and the show will be screened in the run-up to the World Cup finals in June. TV presenter Des started his illustrious career on Radio Brighton back in the Sixties before moving to Grandstand in 1981.
