PARK and ride has been successful in Brighton at the Withdean Stadium site.
It will be able to continue there even if Albion move to the area temporarily. But Brighton and Hove Council must give some urgent consideration to finding another and better site in the north of the town. The ideal site would be close to the junction of London Road with the bypass but the best land for it is north of the downland dual carriageway where no development is normally permitted. Brighton and Hove bus company boss Roger French, who is also a leading light in the Chamber of Commerce, has suggested a site at Hollingbury on the industrial estate. But the council is saying that it would rather reserve that for industry. There are plenty of possible industrial sites in Brighton but few for park and ride. If the Hollingbury site is big enough and would not annoy neighbours, it should be seriously considered.
