BRIGHTON Lions' carnival has been saved by Ecovert South, contractors for Brighton and Hove Council.
The Argus revealed that the annual carnival was in jeopardy because the council was going to charge £650 for traffic management costs in Grand Avenue, Hove, where the parade starts. Ecovert, at the council's request, have now agreed to meet the bill and environment chairman Neil Robinson said: "We are delighted that they have been so generous in supporting the Lions." But he added that the council could not generally waive fees for traffic control on processions which cost thousands of pounds a year. Instead the authority pays for the local paper advertising costs of traffic orders for them.
