PLANS to slow down traffic in Bevendean and improve road safety have been approved by Brighton and Hove councillors.
But some changes have been made to the scheme following consultation with residents. Action was proposed after surveys found that more than half the vehicles were breaking the speed limit in Bevendean, especially in The Avenue, Upper and Lower Bevendean Avenues and Heath Hill Avenue. There have been 26 accidents in three years. Nine out of ten people consulted by the council said Bevendean had a traffic problem and a third said high speeds needed to be tackled. Measures will include speed cushions, kerb build-outs and altered junctions. The scheme will also improve parking in The Highway, The Avenue and Health Hill Avenue outside the school. The scheme will cost £240,000 and it will be introduced when the council has the money for it.
