Once-mighty Peacehaven and Telscombe were relegated to Division 2 last night after a 2-0 home defeat by Wick.
Goals in each half from Stuart Hack (40) and Mark Vickers (80) confirmed the demotion of the Piddinghoe Avenue outfit, who have been County League champions four times in the 1990s. Arundel are also relegated following a 3-1 defeat at Horsham YMCA, whose victory ensured their own survival for another season. Rob Grim gave YM a sensational start by scoring after just 10 seconds, and Andy Price added a second on 10 minutes. Grim was sent off for violent conduct on 19 minutes but Mullets couldn't make their numerical advantage count until five minutes from time when Matt Russell netted. But a second goal for Price soon after confirmed that next season Arundel will spend only their fourth season out of the top flight since 1949. Robbie Kitchen notched his 100th and 101st goals for Hassocks in their entertaining 3-2 win at home to Shoreham. He netted on six and 43 minutes and Adam Booth made it 3-0 on 53 minutes. Shoreham replied through Damian Dunford on 63 and Paul Curtis after 66 minutes. Langney Sports' title hopes took a further knock as they failed to overcome Ringmer at home. Darren Longley gave the visitors a 25th-minute lead, but Chris Piper levelled nine minutes after the break. Ringmer's Mark Sherriff was sent off midway through the second half for two yellow cards. Results elsewhere ensured Chichester could breathe a sigh of relief, despite a 3-1 defeat at Selsey. They made a good start and led through a Dave Kelly strike on the half hour. But three second half goals turned it around for the home side. Alan Morey hit the first two, Paul Lee the third. Sidley United boosted their promotion hopes in Division 2 by coming from behind to win 2-1 at East Grinstead Town. Wasps led through Donovan Lewis but Owen Ball and Gerard Moyse replied. Eastbourne United 2, (Snelgrove 39, Sellows 74), Withdean 1, (Wilson 90). Shinewater Association 4, (Walsh 1, Parks 31, Pettitt 49, Warner 75), Bexhill Town 2 (Bailey 16, Thatcher 70).
