OPPONENTS to Albion's proposed move to Withdean are worried about possible misbehaviour of fans.

In an open letter to Brighton and Hove councillors, the Save Withdean Environment Action Team (SWEAT) uses quotes from an Internet site used by Albion supporters and others. These refer to claims about people throwing bottles, getting drunk and urinating in gardens. SWEAT says: "Unfortunately, residents of North Brighton would have to put up with the behaviour of the so-called fans if the council made the unthinkable decision to approve the application. "A quiet residential area with families, children and elderly people is no place for professional football." But Albion fan Paul Whelch, of Residents Action For The Seagulls at Withdean, said: "This sort of behaviour simply does not take place. It's totally without foundation." Albion general manager Nick Rowe said: "The Internet is a forum for all sorts of people to express their views. A lot of those views are unsavoury and mischievous. "Who is to say whether they are even Brighton and Hove Albion supporters?"
