A SPEED camera is to be installed in Falmer Road, Woodingdean, in a bid to stop dangerous driving.
Brighton and Hove Council, local people and the three ward councillors have all been alarmed at speeds. Surveys show that motorists are generally travelling at 40mph in a 30mph area. The council will consult police and residents about the best location. The current favourite is the junction with Briarcroft Road. The camera will cost £40,000, but transport chairman John Ballance said: "It will be well worth the expense and efforts if it slows down traffic. "It is crucial that we reduce accidents and injuries on this road." The council has already put up speed limit and warning signs in Falmer Road. Local councillor Joan Moorhouse welcomed the news and said: "I first asked the police for a camera here three years ago." She added: "I am very pleased that the council has agreed to fund it in response to the concerns of residents and councillors." The camera should be ready and working in about a month's time.
