A MAN who escaped from Ford Prison last week has been recaptured but another "extremely violent" prisoner is still on the run.

Andrew Nelson, 28, was caught on Friday evening.

He had walked out of the open prison near Arundel, where he is serving three years and five months for wounding, theft and driving offences, the previous afternoon.

Staff at the prison were alerted when Nelson, whose girlfriend lives in Lancing, failed to turn up for a 1pm roll call.

But next day police swooped on St Mary's Hospital, Paddington, where Nelson was being treated, after a tip-off.

He was taken to Harrow Row police station and returned to a secure prison.

Police are still searching for convicted kileer Thomas Tangney, who they think is being harboured in the Worthing area.

Tangney, 49, escaped from Ford Prison last Monday.

The former heroin addict was sentenced to a 99-year prison sentence in 1980 for blasting a pensioner to death with a shotgun.

He had already escaped from a prison near Sudbury in Suffolk before he was moved to Ford in June last year.

Police warn people not to approach Tangney but to dial 999 if they see him.
