A MAN was knocked unconscious when he challenged a would-be car thief.
He spotted the suspect tampering with his vehicle in Gordon Road, Hailsham.
The suspect turned and hit the man over the head with what police described as a heavy object.
The victim fell to the ground unconscious.
He was found by his wife and taken by ambulance to Eastbourne District General Hospital where his injuries were not thought to be serious.
Police are appealing for witnesses.
