CHAIRMAN Don Trangmar has promised to turn Sussex's £193,000 loss into a profit next season.
Trangmar, speaking at the club's AGM in Brighton last night, described the deficit was 'unaccceptable' and admitted that the county had made mistakes last year, notably £41,375 on a TV advertising campaign.
But he said Sussex's financial future was better, especially as they now had three major sponsors and were expecting to make a healthy profit on their four day-night games and another increase in their ECB subsidy.
"We have tighter budgetary controls in place, our income forecasts are conservative and we won't spend money we haven't got," he said. "I'm confident there will be a significant improvement in the club's finances and no loss next year."
Trangmar admitted there was still 'room for improvement' on the playing side.
He added: "1998 was the start of an upward trend but we're not satisfied. Our one-day form was unacceptable and we're in the second division of the National League because we deserve to be.
"There will be a mad scramble to be in Division One of both competitions next season and that's where we want to be. We don't expect miracles, but we expect progress."
