BRITISH Airways resumed its service to Jamaica today after riots on the Caribbean island stranded 300 passengers at Gatwick.
The disappointed travellers were told on Tuesday that their BA flight to Jamaica was cancelled because of the troubles.
Passengers were told they could either have full refunds, stay in local hotels at BA's expense until the next available flight or make alternative arrangements with other airlines.
BA operates four flights a week to Jamaica from Gatwick, calling at both the capital Kingston and Montego Bay.
Today's flight will land at Montego Bay which is reported to have been unaffected by the riots, which followed sharp increase in petrol prices.
A BA spokesman said: "We are absolutely convinced that Montego Bay is completely quiet.
"There is no way we would gamble with people's safety.
"About 100 passengers have been staying at hotels around Gatwick and have been allocated seats on today's flight.
"Most of them were very understanding and accepted the need for the earlier cancellation."
