THE Surfers Against Sewage surfshow hit Brighton today, with some of the country's top competitors calling for cleaner seas.
The stop-over in Brighton, which continues tomorrow, is part of the pressure group's first national tour, with supporters including former Beatle Paul McCartney.
Activities near the Peace Statue on the seafront included a surf school and children's workshops.
Among the surfers taking part were current British champion Lee Bartlet, English ladies' champion Sarah Whiteley and British and European champion long boarder Will Eastham.
The group's director, Chris Hines, said clean and safe sea were vital to the economy. And he added it should cost the water companies only £15 million to install UV filtering at sewage outflows not already scheduled for modernisation.
