A CONMAN aged about 70 tricked cash from another pensioner - aged 90.
The victim was in his motorised wheelchair at the Safeway supermarket in Eastgate Street, Lewes, when the elderly trickster, well dressed and wearing a trilby hat, approached.
He told the victim he was a local vet and pretended to know him.
After chatting for several minutes he persuaded the victim to loan him £40 and promised to bring the cash to him at his nursing home.
Staff at the home later called the police after hearing the story.
Insp Bruce Mathews, head of Lewes police, said: "We have had tricksters stealing cash before but I've not known a case involving a suspect of such advanced years."
He appealed for witnesses or anyone with information to call Lewes police on 0845 60 70 999.
