ALBION goalkeeper Mark Walton could withdraw his transfer demand.

Assistant manager Alan Cork said the big Welshman "wants to stay" after helping Albion to a 1-0 victory over Shrewsbury at Withdean last night.

Walton has let in only one goal in four games since asking to leave because of abuse from fans.

Cork said: "Mark's a nice lad and it's a shame he had to go on the list. He wants to stay.

"He has got a house near Brighton, he likes me and Micky (Adams) and he plays cricket for Haywards heath as well, so why not?"

Walton hinted he is ready to do a U-turn. "The chances get better and better the longer I keep clean sheets," he said.

Gary Hart's third-minute header gave Albion their fourth victory out of seven at their new temporary home, but the match ended in controversy.

Premiership referee Paul Alcock sent-off Shrewsbury pair David Hughes and Steve Jagielka in stoppage time.

Alcock, renowned for being pushed over by Paolo Di Canio when West Ham's Italian star was playing for Sheffield Wednesday, red carded Hughes for a bad foul on Hart, who had to be carried off.

Jagielka followed seconds later for foul and abusive language.

Seething Shrewsbury boss Jake King branded Alcock a "showman."

He added: "You cannot say boo to refs now. It's a disgrace.

"All the managers should get together to talk about the situation with referees."

Albion have moved up three places to eighth ahead of Saturday's trip to Cheltenham.

The club have confirmed the FA Cup first round tie at Peterborough on October 30 will not be all-ticket.
