HOMEWORK CLUBS: Homework clubs have been and are being set up in several Brighton suburbs. They are run jointly by teachers and librarians at community branch libraries and are funded partially by Brighton and Hove Education Office.

Anyone over ten can drop in at a weekly Homework Club to use all the resources of a modern well-equipped library, including access to the Internet, and for as long or as short a time as you wish. You can study in a safe environment on your own or there will be someone there to help if you want. There is no charge.

We have visited one of the Homework Clubs which started just a month ago and resumed the week after the half-term break. Now we would like to know whether Woodingdean would like such a Homework Club so that we

can approach the Homework

OBITUARY: It is indeed with sadness to report the recent death of the secretary of the Friends of Larchwood, Frank Jones.

He played a prominent role in the fund-raising activities for the elderly at the Larchwood Resource Centre. The funds provided extras for the residents and day care clients for which there is no provision in the local authority's budget.

Condolences to to his wife and family at this tine. Frank was a caring, helpful and likeable person who will be missed in the community.

MILLENNIUM TOUR: A final reminder that the tour of the Holy Land is all set to take place between November 11-18 led by the Rev Colin Lawlor and Barbara Wilson.

CHURCH RAID: St Mary Magdalen church warden Ron Brown told me that the following the recent break-in at the church in Selham Drive, a further attempted break has taken place, the door lock being damaged.

CAR BOOT SALE: Brenda Kerr's playgroup did very well with their car boot sale. They raised £197 for the playgroup's funds.

STREET LAMP: I wish Seeboard would read this column as the street lamp in Waldron Avenue, Coldean, has now been out for more than three months and is still not working I have received more complaints.

REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY: The Remembrance Service at St John's on November 14 will begin at 10.15am to enable the observation of a two minutes silence at 11 am.

ANIMAL FAIR: Local animal charities are organising a November Fair on Saturday at St Mary's Church Hall, Surrenden Road. The fair opens at 10.45am-2pm and costs just 20p admission.

GUY FAWKES NIGHT: The Brighton Lions Club are returning to Withdean Stadium tomorrow for their big Firework Night. Gates open at 6pm and the fireworks display starts at 7.30 pm. Adults £5, children under 12 £2.

The display was moved to Sussex County Cricket's Club's ground last year while the stadium underwent the changes to accommodate League football. The Lions are also holding a display at the cricket ground on Saturday.

OLD CROCKS: The A23 through Preston Village alongside Preston Park is always one of the best vantage points to watch the RAC's London to Brighton Veteran Car Run. It is being held on Sunday and the first cars will pass through Preston Village from approximately 11.30am
