Julie Pullin from Hove breezed through her first round match at Telford in defence of her National Singles title.
Facing Anne Hawkins from Wiltshire, who had come through the qualifying rounds, the Hove player took the first set without conceding a game but relaxed a little in the second set to win 6-0, 6-3.
Pullin today faces Heidi Farr from Surrey in the second round.
Jheni Osman from Eastbourne, who had also come through qualifying, had a fine victory over Norfolk's Nicola Woodhouse.
Osman took the first set 6-2 but lost the second 3-6 before talking a close third set 7-5 and she will now meet the number three seed and former finalist Lucie Ahl from Devon.
Julie Dawson from Horsham was unable to contain the talented young Middlesex player Anne Keothavong going down 6-2, 6-3.
Worthing's Martrin Lee, the No 2 seed, suffered a shock defeat to Tom Spinks from Norfolk, 6-3,
6-3.
Spinks is a useful player even though he is falling in the world rankings, and it was always going to be a tough draw for Lee.
