BRIGHTON went top of Kent and Sussex division one after an excellent performance saw off Newhaven 2-1.
Simon Bulteel gave Newhaven an early lead from a short corner, but Brighton equalised before half time when Graham Pruce set up Paul Daniels to finish.
Daniels returned the compliment in the second half, setting up Pruce for the winner, although Brighton were left hanging on at the end after Vince Toohey was sent off.
Brighton's Carlo Missirian said: "I thought Newhaven played well, but I was really pleased with us. It was a better result than the 8-1 victory the week before."
The other all-Sussex game produced a shock as South Saxons claimed their first league win of the season, coming from behind to beat Eastbourne 3-2.
Dave Morgan scored twice in the first half for the home side, but Saxons fought back to clinch an unlikely victory thanks to Richard Harvey (two) and Nicky Phillips.
CRAWLEY went second in the Regional League after a 5-1 drubbing of BBHC.
Without centre half Jamie Westwood, who was competing in the national indoor qualifiers for East Grinstead in Birmingham, Crawley expected a tough game against a side who had beaten Horsham the previous week.
All the goals came in the second half, with Terry Higgs and Carl Wright both scoring twice, while skipper Steve Farley hit the other.
The only sad note for Crawley was an injury picked up by Chris Peach which could rule him out the season.
Horsham bounced back from the previous week's defeat by winning 3-1 at home to Folkestone.
The influence of new coach Andy Barnes shone through as Horsham won with goals from Ian Brown (two) and Pete Burrows. Mark Ansell was man-of-the-match.
Middleton & Bognor eased away from the bottom after a 2-1 win over Sevenoaks.
Mid Sussex were punished for their mistakes as their eight game winning sequence ended with a 5-0 defeat away to league leaders Gore Court, while Worthing went down
2-0 at Ashford.
EAST GRINSTEAD failed to qualify for the finals of the Men's Indoor Championships.
They won just one of their five pool games at Cocks Moor Woods with holders Southgate, Loughborough Students and St Albans qualifying from their group.
Grinstead started with a 6-2 defeat to Southgate, but things picked up with a 10-3 win over Brooklands, followed by draws against Yeovil and Sherborne (6-6) and Loughborough (5-5).
An 8-2 defeat to St Albans in their final game meant the Sussex side went out.
