CRAWLEY clinched a place in the last 16 of the EHA Trophy after winning 3-1 at local rivals Mid Sussex on Sunday.
A stern half-time team talk spurred Crawley to victory after a goalless first half when they failed to break down a Mid Sussex side who were reduced to nine men at one stage.
The hosts had Paul Credland and Ben Firmin sin-binned before the interval, but Crawley failed to take advantage.
However, that all changed in the second half as they went ahead after Carl Wright broke down the right, beat one player and cut inside before seeing an intended pass deflected into the net by a Mids defender.
Things got better for Crawley two minutes later when Stuart Greenwood was fouled in the D and the resulting short corner was switched to Greenwood who flick the ball into the bottom corner of the net.
Mid Sussex responded well and pulled a goal back when James Buckeridge deflected in a shot from Mike Jourdain from a short corner.
The home team then pushed for an equaliser, but Crawley sealed victory when they broke away to score a third when Greenwood's deflected pass came back off the post and captain Steve Farley slotted home.
