FIREFIGHTERS rescued a woman and three pets from their smoke-filled home last night.
Crews from Hailsham and Herstmonceux went to the kitchen fire at a house in Swan Road, Hailsham.
Firefighters entered the building, where they found the woman and her two cats and a pet rat.
The woman, who has not been named, was taken to Eastbourne
District General Hospital suffering from smoke inhalation.
All three pets are being looked after at an animal shelter until their owner recovers.
The fire caused substantial damage to the kitchen and smoke damage to adjoining rooms.
