A HUGE copper-coloured dome has been placed on a palace being built for tycoon Nicholas Hoogstraten.

Hamilton Palace is being constructed on the High Cross Estate at Framfield, near Uckfield.

The mansion, which is thought to be costing the 54-year-old £30 million, is being built in the grounds of a former nursing home which was destroyed by a mystery fire in 1983.

It is destined to become a private gallery for Mr Hoogstraten's collection of antiques and works of art and will also house his tomb.

The palace is named after the capital of Bermuda where the multi-millionaire bought his first hotel. Building work is expected to

finish this year.

The design is based on buildings admired by Mr Hoogstraten, including Buckingham Palace.
