Musical MEMORIES: Music and songs from the Twenties to the Forties will be performed by the Wandering Minstrels in their show, From the Ritz to the Blitz, which can be seen either tomorrow or next Saturday, April 15 at the Knoyle Hall, Knoyle Road. MILLENNIUM CONCERT: Sussex Philharmonic Chorus are joining up with the Brighton Chamber Choir on Saturday, April 15, to perform Michael Tippett's marvellous A Child of our Time at St John's, Knoyle Road. Beethoven's Leonora No 3 Overture completes the evening, which starts at 7.30pm. Tickets are £9 (or £6 concessions) and will be available at the door.
ST JOHN'S: Several exciting outings are being planned for parishioners of St John's. They include day trips to Le Touquet through the Channel Tunnel, Oxford, the Millennium Dome and Chichester Festival Theatre. Also, planning is in the very early stages, for a trip to the Holy Land during March next year.
Additionally, a fund-raising programme involving such things as a quiz night, a garden party, a parish barbecue and a progressive dinner has been drawn up.
CHARITY AUCTION: An auction of collectables and bric-a-brac will he held at St Mary's Church Hall, Surrenden Road, on April 15. The proceeds are in aid of local animal rescue groups. Viewing of the lots is from 11am-1pm when the auction commences. Stephen Perry of Graves Son & Pilcher is the auctioneer. Entrance, including a catalogue, is 40p.
CROQUET OPEN DAYS: Preston Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club in Preston Drove are holding open afternoons on Saturday, April 15, at 2pm and Sunday, April 16, at 2.30pm when there will be an opportunity to try the game of croquet, followed by tea. DOCTOR: Popular Saltdean GP Dr Silvingham held a garden party for his patients and friends at his home next to the surgery in Saltdean Drive on Saturday. Among more than 100 guests was Sir Andrew Bowden, the former Kemp Town MP.
The reason for the Party was that the doctor is returning to his native Sri Lanka where his mother is seriously ill. The single practice is being taken over by Dr Amin, 36, who has been a locum in the Brighton area.
POLICE: Saltdean community policemen PCs Helen Rewlings, Alan Nicholson and Jim Moore have been much in evidence in Saltdean Vale where under-age drinkers had caused problems, particularly to residents in Mayfield Court where a petition had been signed by most of the residents.
At the Neighbourhood Watch meeting last week, Insp Paul Smith had promised instant action and that is what we got.
Alldays have promised they will have a security guard in attendance now that they have a cash dispenser outside their shop.
