THE teenage daughter of Sussex Chief Constable Paul Whitehouse has been charged with possessing an offensive weapon, understood to be a piece of wood.
Frances Whitehouse, 19, of St Aubyn's, Hove, has been released on police bail and is due to appear before Brighton and Hove magistrates on Tuesday.
A Sussex Police spokesman confirmed: "Miss Whitehouse has been charged with possession of an offensive weapon and has been released on police bail."
The spokesman refused to disclose details but the Argus understands Miss Whitehouse made a 999 call to police from her flat around midnight on Thursday asking for assistance.
Miss Whitehouse was taken to John Street police station in Brighton where she was held for several hours.
The Chief Constable has been informed.
