Darren Carr faces a race against time to return to Albion's squad for their showdown with the League leaders.

Carr is struggling to shrug off a calf problem ahead of Saturday's sell-out clash against Rotherham at Withdean.

The injury-plagued central defender missed out on a place on the bench for last Saturday's goalless draw at Exeter. He is not involved in a reserve team friendly arranged by manager Micky Adams away to his old club Southampton today (1pm).

That leaves Thursday's reserve game against Wycombe Wanderers for Carr to prove his fitness. The big stopper has been hit by a succession of injuries since his £25,000 move from Gillingham last summer.

He has only played in half of Albion's matches, but Adams would like to have him up his sleeve as an emergency striker. Today's run-out gives several players an opportunity to push for a place against Rotherham.

Martin Ling, Warren Aspinall and Chris McPhee all came on at Exeter in the second half.

Albion Reserves: Ormerod; Andrews, Campbell, Palmer, McPherson, Westcott, Aspinall, Armstrong, Ling, McPhee, Thomas.
